Ukraine during the Second World War: Everyday Survival Experience

Launched in 2010, with the last interviews conducted in 2022, this project contains over 359 interviews from across Ukraine. Initially, the goal was to gather additional sources for studying wartime everyday life. Over time, the focus shifted to exploring historical memory of the war. Interviewees were selected based on their personal experience of wartime life in Ukraine, rather than specific roles (e.g. soldiers, Ostarbeiters). Most were born between 1928 and 1934 — meaning they were between 7 and 13 years old during the war.
